Build a Bug Hotel
A fun way to help the wildlife in your garden
Let's build a bug hotel to encourage diverse wildlife in your garden and provide shelter for all the pollinators and helpful insects such as ladybirds and bees.

Step 1: Create the Frame
Find a sturdy wooden crate or stack up some old pallets. This will be the main structure that protects your bug residents from the wind and rain.

Step 2: Add Nesting Tunnels
Pack bundles of hollow bamboo canes, twigs, dry reeds, or drilled logs into the frame. Solitary bees love these small tunnels for laying their eggs and resting safely.

Step 3: Fill with Cozy Textures
Use pine cones, dry leaves, and rolled-up cardboard to fill the gaps. These smaller crevices provide perfect hiding spots for ladybirds, lacewings, and beetles looking for shelter.

Step 4: Find the Perfect Spot
Place your finished hotel in a firm, sunny position away from prevailing winds. Setting it near nectar-rich flowers will help insects find their new home quickly and easily.
