Direct Sow: March/April/May or August/September/October
Flowers: May/June/July/August/September
Direct sow into a well prepared bed in spring or autumn. These beautiful poppies prefer full sun and moist but well-drained soil. Once the flowers have bloomed, allow the heads to fully dry out and either shake the seeds out to sow more for the next season or (our favourite) gift the seeds to make someone happy!
Our Tip!
Put your poppy seeds into an ice cube tray, fill with water and freeze for 3 weeks before pushing into well prepared soil. This process of 'cold stratification' tricks the seeds into thinking its winter, resetting their internal timer so as they thaw they germinate successfully.
